Caverion Suomi has signed an agreement with Skanska to provide plumbing, ventilation, electrification and building automation work for the Sibelius Academy’s facilities undergoing renovation. The contract value is over EUR 2.5 million.
Skanska is renovating the premises, located in Etu-Töölö in a building formerly used by the National Board of Antiquities, for use by the Sibelius Academy that is part of the University of the Arts Helsinki. The investment value of the whole project is over EUR 15 million. The project has been commissioned by the property investment company Helsingin yliopistokiinteistöt Oy.
“We are happy to be able to work together on this demanding project. This marks a continuation of our earlier good cooperation on projects such as Shopping Centre Kaari in the Kannelmäki neighbourhood of Helsinki and the old health centre in the Itis shopping centre, also in Helsinki,” says Regional Manager Vesa Tähti of Skanska Talonrakennus Oy.
Renovation work on the building has begun with dismantling work. The Sibelius Academy will move into its new facilities at the end of summer 2014, and the whole project will be completed at the end of September.
Special attention in the planning and construction of building technology will be paid to the acoustic demands of the building. Special solutions are being implemented for factors such as vibration protection and soundproofing for installed equipment and plumbing as well as pipe support.
“Our new company, Caverion, has been received positively, and our good history of cooperation with Skanska is able to continue in this significant project. It is great that old and valuable properties are renovated and brought up to modern standards in terms of their building technology, too,” says Riku Mandelin, Business Division Director of Caverion.
