Caverion and Rovaniemen Energia have signed a letter of intent concerning the business transfer of maintenance services. According to the letter of intent, Caverion Suomi Oy and Rovaniemen Energia Oy will commence negotiations on a business transfer in which twelve Rovaniemen Energia employees would be transferred to Caverion as existing employees. The planned date of the business transfer is estimated to be 1 May 2014.
Rovaniemen Energia launched statutory employer-employee negotiations in September 2013, aiming to increase the operational efficiency of the energy group, improve operational reliability and achieve cost savings. As part of the cooperation procedure and organisational change, Rovaniemen Energia Oy tendered the maintenance services of its district heating network and production plants. Seven maintenance service providers took part in the tender, and early 2014 has seen intensive negotiations.
The new letter of intent signed by Rovaniemen Energia and Caverion Finland specifies the framework for more detailed negotiations aiming to implement the business transfer.
“Tendering the maintenance services proved that maintenance service companies operating nationwide were interested in Rovaniemi and also Lapland as a whole. The tender by Rovaniemen Energia and a workload of a permanent nature have been seen as a good opportunity for expanding the operations of the companies in Lapland. We believe that Caverion’s strong position as a maintenance service provider in Northern Finland will also provide the transferred employees with better opportunities for professional development than the Rovaniemen Energia group could have offered. We expect Caverion to use its strong resources to provide a better ability to respond to the fluctuating workload of the Rovaniemen Energia group and contribute to the operational reliability of energy supply,” says Markus Tykkyläinen, Managing Director, Rovaniemen Energia Oy.
“Caverion has diverse and long-standing experience in the outsourcing of maintenance in a variety of industries. We have been successfully cooperating with Rovaniemen Energia for a long time. By expanding our cooperation, we can develop and streamline maintenance to improve operational reliability and achieve cost savings,” says Martti Kaikkonen, Regional Manager at Caverion.
