Caverion provides building systems worth EUR 33 million to Henninger Tower in Germany

Caverion has secured a contract with real estate developer Actris Henninger Turm GmbH & Co. KG to install heating, sanitation, cooling, ventilation, safety and security as well as automation and electricity to the new Henninger Tower in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The value of the project is about EUR 33 million and it covers project execution. The work on site is scheduled to start in December 2014 and will be completed approximately by the end of 2016.

The new skyscraper will replace a former symbol of the city, the tower of the former Henninger brewery. The new building follows the shape of its historical predecessor and will have a gross floor area of 77,000 m² with 207 luxury apartments over its 40 floors, with a net living space of 19,000 m². A U-shaped block development will provide additional commercial floor space for local service providers.

The building will have ventilation equipment with a total output of 340,000 m³/hour and smoke extraction systems with an output of 240,000 m³/hour. Caverion will also install more than 9,000 sprinklers, 1,200 sanitation fixtures, 18,000 m² of cooling ceilings and 6,000 lights fixtures. Some of the energy to heat and cool the building will be supplied by what is currently Hessen’s largest geothermal plant. This will require 122 boreholes, of a total length of 12 kilometres, to be drilled into the hillside.

"The location, building method and technical equipment make the Henninger Tower an entirely unique residential building project," says Jörg Janson, project manager for Actris Henninger Turm GmbH & Co. KG. "For us as the investor, it mainly comes down to securing top quality project execution despite the tight timeframe."

"As an end-to-end service provider for building systems, we bring many years of experience in high-rise buildings to this project," explains Manfred Kölbl, head of large scale projects for Caverion in Germany. "When schedules are tight, as in this case, we couldn't be better placed with our team due to our multi-disciplinary work as technical general contractor. We can coordinate logistical processes just in time."

Caverion has similar experience in projects such as The Squaire building at Frankfurt airport and the Frankfurt PalaisQuartier building complex.

About Henninger Tower:
The new Henninger Tower replaces the old Henninger Tower which was opened in 1961 and demolished in 2013 and was used by the brewery of the same name as a grain silo. It became a landmark of the city on the River Main. The new tower, which will be around 20 m higher than its predecessor, will be based closely on the original, borrowing characteristic elements such as its "barrel shape". An extra five storeys will be added. These will house luxury residential apartments whilst the top storey, the 40th floor, will feature a restaurant; again, just like the original.
