Caverion has secured a contract with The Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund (German statutory pension insurance scheme) to install heating, cooling, sanitation, ventilation, security and safety including fire protection in one of their existing administrative buildings in Berlin. The value of the project is about EUR 15.6 million and it covers project management and execution. The work on site is already underway and will be completed in the beginning of 2016.
The Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund (DRV) has begun extensive renovation work to its entire stock of administrative premises in Berlin. The 100-metre tall high-rise public building was built in 1977. As part of the project Caverion will install more than 14,000 sprinklers and smoke protection pressure systems for firefighter lifts and security stairs. Smoke and heat exhausting systems will be installed to the conference facilities. Specific features such as cooling ceilings, heat recovery in the central ventilation systems and rainwater recycling are part of the project.
“Many high-rise buildings from the late 1970s and 1980s have long exceeded their technical half-life and are therefore in urgent need of renovation. Fire protection systems have also gone through major development during the past decades,” explains Manfred Kölbl, head of Caverion’s large scale projects in Germany. “The average useful life of buildings is constantly falling. Renovating and repairing high-rise buildings becomes increasingly important.”
