Caverion has been awarded an agreement worth EUR 3.2 million to supply heating and sanitation, ventilation and air conditioning, electricity, security and safety as well as automation systems for the new Arendal police station in South Norway. In addition to installing all technical systems in the property, Caverion will be responsible for design & engineering, project management and project execution.
In the project, Caverion acts as a subcontractor to the general contractor BRG. The developer of the real estate is the government owned company Statsbygg.
The property will be built according to passive house standards, which means it will be largely self-contained, requiring very little energy for heating and cooling.
“Statsbygg has strengthened its environmental focus over the last few years. Presently, one third of the new buildings have been built to passive house standards or even higher standards,” says project manager Arnold Pedersen from Statsbygg.
Passive houses typically have energy needs of about a quarter of the norm compared to traditional buildings. The energy need can be reduced through numerous measures such as extra insulation, added density, good windows and energy-efficient technical systems. To contribute to the energy efficiency in the Arendal police station, Caverion will supply the property with hydraulic water pumps for heating and aggregates with rotary switches, which will recycle up to 80% of the heat.
“Caverion always delivers flexible and energy-efficient solutions, taking into consideration the entire life cycle of the property, including its sustainable use. ClimaCeil, our patented ceiling element developed in-house, integrates all the technical systems needed in the building, including ventilation, electricity, data, telecom, sprinkler and central vacuum systems. It will provide the police station with on-demand control of air and temperature, maintaining the conditions inside the property according to individually set targets for energy use. For example one can set different heating and cooling parameters for the south and north parts of the building,” says department manager, Caverion’s department Project South, Mikal Klungland.
The new police headquarters will encompass 5,700 square meters and will house reception and detention areas, office spaces and meeting rooms, a shooting range, exercise facilities and locker rooms. There will also be parking facilities for police vehicles as well as for the public.
The project is scheduled to be completed in July 2016.
