Caverion to deliver high-pressure piping to new multi-fuel power plant in Naantali, Finland

Caverion and Turun Seudun Energiantuotanto Oy have signed an agreement on a high-pressure piping delivery to a new NA4 CHP multi-fuel power plant in Naantali, Finland. The process piping delivery includes piping design, materials, prefabrication and industrial installation. The value of the agreement is approximately EUR 8 million.

The delivery includes the main steam piping and other high-pressure piping with a total weight of approximately 400 tonnes. Quality requirements for the delivery are strict, particularly for the pipe materials and welding, as the main steam temperature in the power plant is as high as 555 °C. The project has a positive employment impact: the installation phase, for example, employs about 50 people. The prefabricated pipe spools will be manufactured and the pipe induction bending carried out at Caverion’s workshop in Ylivieska.

The planning phase for the project will start in autumn 2015 and installation work in spring 2016. The new power plant will be operational in autumn 2017. One of the main objectives of the power plant is to increase the use of renewable energy to a level where the proportion of biofuels is 60 per cent.

“In this project, we will be able to utilise our entire piping delivery service chain. Caverion has a lot of experience in the delivery of similar high-pressure pipe systems to power plants in Finland and Europe,” says Juhani Pitkäkoski, Division Manager at Caverion Industrial Solutions.

“We are glad that Caverion won the tight international bidding competition, which was arranged according to the Act on Public Contracts. We value Caverion’s proven track record on similar total deliveries of power plant pipe systems. It is a good thing for the project that the detailed planning for the high-pressure piping can be started well in advance,” says Tapani Bastman, CEO at Turun Seudun Energiantuotanto.

Turun Seudun Energiantuotanto Oy belongs to Caverion’s industrial client segment.
