Caverion has made an agreement with Linde Engineering concerning mechanical installations and pipe, equipment and steel installations for a new hydrogen plant in the Kilpilahti industrial area of Porvoo, Finland. The installations began in August 2015 and will be complete in May 2016. The value of this agreement will not be disclosed.
The project involves prefabricating and installing process piping for the new hydrogen reformer and completing equipment and steel installations. Prefabricated parts are made at Caverion's own workshops in Ylivieska and Leppävirta. The site will employ up to 80 Caverion personnel.
The Porvoo refinery already has two hydrogen production units with the older one now due for replacement by a more efficient unit. Hydrogen will be produced from natural gas using a steam reforming process and the Porvoo refinery will use the hydrogen as part of several different processes and products, such as sulphur-free diesel fuel and high-quality base oils.
"We have strong experience of similar, challenging projects. We worked with Linde to implement a liquid natural gas (LNG) terminal in Sweden in 2013. Caverion was also involved in constructing the current hydrogen production unit in the Kilpilahti area approximately ten years ago. Linde Engineering is a global company and we are happy to be able to deliver such a demanding project for them," says Juhani Pitkäkoski, Executive Vice President & CEO, Caverion's Industrial Solutions Division.
Linde Engineering is part of the international Linde Group and it belongs to Caverion's industrial client segment.
