With yellow windows the new police station in Holstebro, Denmark is easy to notice, surrounded by barracks and new neighbours, waiting to be taken into use soon. In the barracks lives one of Caverion’s employees, installer Morten Dissing, who has travelled a long way to get here. Morten is employed within the project business and is finishing up one of Caverion’s life cycle projects before delivery.
Holstebro is a long way from his home from the island of Funen, so Morten lives on the first floor of one of the barracks from Mondays to Thursdays. The work days are long but so is the weekend. “It’s really not that bad to live in a barrack,” says Morten while laughing.
We are responsible for the entire life cycle
The police station in Holstebro is a PPP project (public-private partnership), where Caverion is responsible for the life cycle of the buildings. Besides delivering all building solutions, Caverion is also in charge of technical maintenance, cleaning and maintenance of the outside surroundings for the next 25 years. Life cycle responsibility for buildings and industrial plants is the key focus for all of Caverion’s solutions, eventually leading to better energy efficiency and as a result, less environmental impact and energy costs for the customer. “While working on different tasks around the police station, I do not give much thought to the fact that I am working within a strategical focus area. However, I like my job, so then it’s a good thing that Caverion wins many PPP-projects which I can partake in,” says Morten.
Working with shades
Morten’s work is partly installing smoke-ventilation-pressure systems and sunshades on the windows.“It’s a lot of work because we need sunshades on all windows. The blinds need to be installed between two layers of glass so that they can be pulled all the way up, leaving only the window pane visible, adjusted horizontal ly or against the light,” explains Morten. The pressure systems meant for smoke ventilation are installed on the ground floor, where pressure is created when necessary. In case of a fire emergency, the pressure opens the big windows and transports the smoke out.
All disciplines at play
Fire detection systems and safety zones ensures the safety of the police station. In case the fire detection system sets off, it will automatically control all other systems at the station.“With these large building systems projects, it’s exciting to see all our disciplines at play. I work closely together with the other installer colleagues at the police station,” Morten says.
